The official how to google thread (inspired by king)

Google is pretty straightforward right?

Well then why do people have so much trouble finding things on google?

This is going to end up in the before you ask forum if things go well so only post techniques you use with google to help you find things faster and more effiently

I like to start very broad the most simple thing you can search for reason being sometimes it will litterally be the first thing that comes up that you need all you are doing by puting other words in is possibly getting a better match for your search which may not be the better match for your problem. Only put in the info you NEED to avoid commonly used words.

If the results are not specific enough search deeper get more specific and think of differant words for the keywords you are searching for (example areo kits body kits ground effects all mean the same thing and will have differant results)

gradually get more specific as you go

and something I think is very very important avoid angelfire and such hosting services they tend to not have very reliable info

try to get more than one site that says the same thing

Google lesson number 2

Often times you are trying to be specific with a phrase and you just cant seem to Google to return the right results from your search.

For instance, car making sqealing noise search returns multiple searches about cars, squealing, noises, etc.

However, putting quotes around an exact phrase -"car is making a squealing noise" returns results with that exact phrase. More to come......

Make sure you have the spelling correct for whatever it is you are looking up. A lot times you might spell something one letter off, like a vowel for instance, and it will bring up something different then if you had spelled it correctly. Also if you are looking up something that is in a particular location, try to put the city and state in your search keywords. I was gonna say quotes, but Matrix stole it, lol.

why what a great question Steve!

when you go into the advanced page the top portion is very self explanitory

search for any of the words will find any of the words you put in ect.

then there is the langwedge option which really doesn't come into play too much I never honestly use it

File format is good when looking for a file not a webpage

using the date feature is something I do pretty often when I'm looking for NEW information Like when finding the current status the the importation of skylines

You don't likely need occurances

Domain is something I use on pretty much all my searches I like to keep it to .coms or .orgs this really helps you stay away from many of the non-credible sites you can also use this to search within a site by inserting a URL

Safesearch keeps the porn away turn it off if you're looking for porn....

There are many good things on google to teach you to use google go ahead and google google one time

Google calculator/converter is awesome

all you have to do is type in your equation in the normal google screen and it will do a problem

to convert all you have to do is type # original units to new units
