So My car was Dying, and I dont mean it drove poorly, I mean seccond gear was gone, clutch was gone, chassie rust, engine malfunction and no exhaust, but it ran. All I had done to my 240 was put in a new battery and save up money for SR20det. When the cash was present I called my local shop and schedualed an appointment, A week later there was a fairly used, cheap, SR20det engine waiting for my little car. One problem, How to get the car to the shop. a towing estimate claimed 175 for tow and we decided to go other ways with this operation. My dad said to me "LETS JUST DRIVE IT, WHAT COULD HAPPEN, ITS ONLY 20 MINS AWAY."

So the Drive begins. it had been raining on and off throught the day and it looked like we had timed it right to make it up to arlington OK. its 6:30 in november, 10 blocks from my house the car dies, just dies. The last Hoorah. we decide to do some inspection and see if the battery is charged at an autoaone. we wait for 45 mins to charge it. get a free battery and they wish us best of luck. One the way back to the car it starts to SNOW! oh great, now the weather doesnt want my car in the shop. BUT WE MUST PRESS ON, I get on 83North and drive 35 in the right lane with my blinkers on. my father behind me in a minivan. It felt like a funeral procession!!! about 5 mins from the shop my car starts to die again. I decide to give this engine the last ride of its life and floor the pedal. We burn through 2 stoplights and now are two blocks from my shop. then... I see flashing lights in my rearview mirror. F***! i decide to finish the drive and I figure i can explain it to them when we get to the shop. I accedently slide onto the side street and I almost loose control in the parking lot. as I pulled up to the garage door the car goes to hell, engine cuts out, no power, nothing. My dad kindly explained the situation to the officer who was forgiving enought to omit the 4 traffic violations I caused. (I am watching the boys roll my car into the shop.

As they open the hood to inspect there job for the next month a cloud of smoke billows out from the engine bay, my car pours out all its remaining fluids on their floor, and the head mech said "looks like a bomb went off inside this thing!" We shook hands, took a look at the prepped SR engine and headed home after a long night of terrible mishaps. but we made it to the shop safely, no tickets, and hopes for better times with the 240.

morale of the story: Always tow a broken car...

*SIDE NOTE* the engine was taking direct power from the battery, due to non working Alternator.

ok ok. i'm tempted by matrix's story to tell my little short story.

I call this *Torment*

My first project was amazingly wonderful.............in looks. (it had a alternator problem) the frist car i ever painted and fiberlassed.....finished, at home, and the biggest smile ever (all u tuners know that smile).... a las i couldn't drive it for two reasons. 1: no *real L.Plate* ( like i ever had any) and 2: i didn't have a lisense or permit. my mom didn't let me drive it. Now beening a very proud owner of 1 of the freshish car in the city (at the age 0f 16) i couldn't let that stop me. i took pics of it.... then printed them out in lots copies and passed all of them out at school. "yes yes yes" i thought to my self. "hey check this out" and quickly flash a pic (to make them wanna see it more). girls (as well as guys) came crowding me asking me questions that u get a car show. Then my best friend asked me "wheres the car?" Putting my fame, glory, and in yo face pleasure i was in to the burning pits of (excuse me) Hell. I then punched him the shoulder (and cried inside) as i said "well it at home..... cuz moms won't let me drive." it was painful enough to say it but everyday i came to school again and again i got the *u have a fresh car but u can't drive it* speech and laugh.

Three months later i finally got it to school...........sad thing is my sister was drive it there to pick me up. (ahhhhhhhhh) pure embrassment, but the feel of the in yo face made it feel better. anyway it went on like that for 2 weeks. then i got my permit (yaaayyyy) but moms still wouldn't let me drive it. "u must prove ur self worthy first" my mom said...... i wanted to say what any very angery teen on the verge of humping any thing in sight would say "I hate u" after that i didn't drive it for another 2 weeks. Now comes my moument of glory. I finally drove it to school on a thursday. I woke up early and waited out a block from the school till it opened for the day. And what do u know a hater (my most hated enemy) comes up and spits on my car and then throws sum mud at it (it had rained the night b4)......... so i beat his (dag gotta keep it clean) buttocks down to the ground. doin this made me 4get what i was doing and miss my chance to show off the car. so now i'm late for school (but i don't get detention.....yes), but ppl still saw my car and they wanted to talk to me about. anyway after school was out i ran to the car and pulled it right in front of the school.

here comes the end of my day. my battery gets low so i have to get it home quick. i rush on my way home. and i come to a steap hill which made me pick up alot of speed. then from the side my enemy (whom i beat up and ironically is my next door neighbor) gets close to try a ram me from the rear. so i press on the gas to pick up more speed and pull away. by now i'm doing 80 and then he comes from the side and tries to hit me, only to make me get closer to the curb. my lights start blinking on and off cuz of the battery and i'm almost home. but wait.................... here comes a turn i'm now at 82 he is just pressed on the brakes. then i do but hes on my side so i can't make a wide turn so can't make the turn right. so i start turning and i drift (i guess) ,thanks to the wet streets, for a few yards while the car's right side is maybe 1...2 feet in the air, then it comes down (this is the bad part) getting traction from the other to tires (i guess) made the car go straight and being close to the crub my car suddenly goes BAM!!! to the crub. busting up the axel two secs more (why god) i hit a wooden mail box busting the glass. a few feet more it stops. he rides off (with the look of what have i done on his face) and i call my mom, she gets mad, then gets there and laughs at the mail box thing and now everyone thinks the mail box bust the axel up. which is practically impossible and if i hit it dead on. front and center. this bust my bumper in half and heres a pic of it on my neon i got the next day for $150 after i fixed it.
oh and now i have a three rim set.

1. the car i had is gone i was kinda happy and didn't care. if i u knew the problem it gave me u would b to. plus the airbags didn't even deploy............ ahhhhhhhhh.

2. I almost killed sum1 the next day.

3. why did i have to hit a mail box anyway. its not fair.

and kids a stock suspension system + bad brakes + bad tires + a quick turn at a high speed = how my car drifted with 1 side in the air.

I'm very sorry for it being that long and those big pics. oh and the red neon tire fell off while i was drive it home the day after the accident and well it had 75 percent of a rotor for a while. think of a hamburger with a huge chunk missing cuz u took a huge bite.

I was having a horrible day to begin with, when I was driving on a 2 lane street in a rural area on the outskirts of town, when I come up behind an elderly gentalman in a blue sedan. It wasnt long before I noticed he was swerving around and breaking erraticly, and just plain driving crazy. After about 5 miles of trailing behind him, I couldnt take it anymore, so I decided to pass, well it was a double yellow, and since I was acting soo impulsively,I failed to notice there was a city cop 2 cars behind.
I looked up to see him whip around the car that was inbetween us,and I knew he was coming for me.I was freaked out for various reasons(some from the bad day, some from the fact I am already paying off 600$ in tickets),so I panic and decide to punch it! I know what your thinking,I was too. So I turn into this neighborhood, the first right I could take, and its a brand new community of custom homes, its almost finished, except for the landscaping, and its an absolute maze! I take another right and then a left, and another right, and down a couple blocks, then another left, all the while doing like 55 mph. At this point Im freaking out, thinking WTF Im an idiot! Ive seen the show cops,I know what happens to people that run from the cops.......bad bad things! But im still trying desprately to get away. The only time I saw the cop is right after I made my 1st right, after that I felt like I lost him.
So I drive to an exsisting neighborhood that is connected to the new one,and park my car in a coldesac.I quickly get out and look across the field that connects the the 2 neighborhoods, and here he comes lights blazind and sirens roaring! Im like OH MY GOD,and run around the block and try to find somewhere to hide out.Theres nothing,it right where the new houses ended, and there was nothing but a porta-jon.So I had no other choice but to high tail it for the porta jon, because my car was pretty tucked away out of sight. Let Me just say OH MY GOD!!!!!!! THE WORST SMELL U HAVE EVER SMELLED! I mean the smell of sickness and dead flesh, combined with urine and poop,it is something that cannot be displayed in words, trust me.So now im totally screwed, scared, and gagging out.And here comes the cop.I peek at him through the "window" and see him circle up around the block and come back by a 2nd time.Im like I have to get out of here before I become ill.He circles around a 3rd time and parks no more than 35 feet away from the porta jon!!!!!!!!!! IM like no F ing way! He proceeds to sit there for what seemed to be an etenrity, but in reality was only 19 mins. And then finally drove out of the neighborhood.I got out of there ran up to the corner to make sure he wasnt still waiting, and then cut out!
Needless to say it was one of the crappiest days of my life,no pun intended.I was fortunate not go to jail, but belive me when I say,I WAS PUNISHED! A punishment I wouldnt wish on my worst enemy.I made a poor descision and paid for it,to say the least. What in the world those construction workers were eating is beyond me,but they might need to see some doctors.

alright, one day i was with my friends driving through McAllen, TX. We were in an old Bronco and it was a stick. Well i had just gotten my license a while back and i really didnt know how to drive a stick, i mean i was ok once i got going, but getting into first always killed me. so i ask my friend (who was a female) if i can try to drive her truck down the road. nothing crazy, just drive down 10th street. so she says yes and there i go. i stalled a couple of times, but it was cool, i got going. well as im driving my friends want ice cream. there's a Dairy Queen down the road and the female says "hey, pull into Dairy Queen and after that we can switch drivers" so i say ok. no big deal right. well there was a car in front of me that had just drove up to the window of the store. i was at the ordering sign. the guy drives off and its my turn to pull in..... well, i stalled. ok, i can do this....... i tried... and stalled again.....***t....... try again...... and i stall AGAIN!! by this time the guy at the window sticks his head out the window and hes waving me in. im like "i know, im going!!" so i try again... and nope, i stall. Man, i have got to be the worst driver!! there are a couple of people behind me getting a little impatient and start honking at me. "IM GOING MAN!!!" i try again but i cant get it!!! the people inside Dairy Queen are looking at me too!! im so embarassed now!! Damn, i gotta get into gear. The guy at the window is laughing at me and still waving me in. my friends in the truck are laughing too. all this aint making it easier for me. so i try a couple more times and FINALLY i get into first and drive to the window. then its like i just won an award or something cuz the guy at the window is cheering and clapping, the cars behind me are honking and yelling...... and the people inside stand up and start clapping!!! im ready to just die of embarassment when the guy at the window says "you think you should let the lady drive!?" ........ so i do, i get out of the truck (and the cheering and yelling gets louder) (crazy people) and we switch drivers. we get our ice cream and leave. ..... yeah thats my story. i have more but this was the first one i thought of.

Wow i have a whole lot of them but i think this is the right one.

Ok so i had just bought my car 2 weekends earlier and my friend who works at lincoln tech invited me to with him to the race track it was my first time going to the quarter mile in my subie so i thought i would be really fun.

Let me say now i had some huge sticky 245/40's all the way around on my car. So i had decided to take my slippery stockers with me in the back, by the way with those i had a 2.0 second 60 ft time. Which isnt bad at all for stock tires. But i took them with me and after a hour of driving to get to Ennis i finnally got there. It was open but the drag strip didnt open till till the fuel station was open so everyone got in line there to get their saftey cards and fill them out at turn them in, we sat there for about an hour. Also that night was free nitrous night which is really good if you have nitrous bottles.

So im sitting there for a hour and most of those guys in the line have old school muscle cars (had some really nice ones) and some mustangs and camaros, so pretty much i was the only import there and they were flocking around my car and im like "Dude that is a 1968 camaro rs/ss sitting behind me and you want to look at my car???" So they sat and we talked and finally it opened and everyone went to get thier cars ready, well for me all that involved was taking the stockers out of the hatch and putting them in my friends pick up which they had brought the lincoln tech dragster out there.

So i didnt know what kind of times i was going to run (most people run low to mid 14's with the mods i had but they had stock tires) all i knew was that my car had a boost controller on there a aftermarket downpipe and a aftermarket up pipe (no catalytic converters they sold it to me like that) i had adjusted my boost up earlier so the check engine light wouldnt be flashing when i stepped on it (over boost at low rpms) so i go and and set up when i first drove on there the track sounded like duct tape and the water box hadnt been filled yet so im sitting there and i rev up to 4 grand and the green hits and i make sure i get the best launch possible because the rt didnt matter to me.

I am able to get all the way into 4th (should of stayed in 3rd and rode it out) by the end of the track, and i go to pick up my time slip and the lady said i need a helmet i am like why do i need a helmet? Well i had ran faster than a 13.999 so i looked down and it read

So i knew that was pretty good for a wagon but my trap speed was kinda low i guessed, had a tow hitch on there with those huge tires so thats what i thought. So i go and show my friend the time slip and he is like damn dude look at your 60 ft time im like yeah its kinda good right? Hes like dude that is a very good launch you had, im like it better be i hope i dont break anything. He told me i should launch at 7 grand next time im like heck no. I go to run again against a lightning this time he ran a 14.4 and i ran a 13.9 the water box was filled this time and that stupid heat soak. Went and got my helmet too.

So progressivly ran slower and slower times because of the heat building up. So the quickest et on street tires for the night came up. There were a bunch of trans ams and camaros there that ran 11's and 12's i knew i didnt have a chance but i thought id just give it a show the stands were full by then i turned up the boost full and so i lined up against a trans am and dropped it at 7 grand. My 60 ft time was .1 slower than my best but i had managed to spin all 4 tires and i decided to do it again and i did it a 3rd time.

I had noticed cop watching me race the entire time i wanted to leave because both my inspection and registration tags were out by more than 6 months. I was going to make one last run and i turned down the boost (big mistake) and i lined up i dropped it at 7 grand and all the sudden bang and sound of the gears grinding down i tried to move and they grinded down again everyone was cheering and screaming in the stands there were a whole lot of people too and i had my helmet and i waved and shook my fist in victory but i just kept laughing so i went to the lincoln tech trailer and the figured that i just blew 1st gear and took out 5th. The officer who had been watching me came up to me and said i had a hard enough night and decided not to follow my butt out of the race track and give me a ticket half a mile down the road.

I told him thank you and i loaded up and limped home with out 1st or 5th.

When I was 16 my dad had a Datsun 240z. Had a triple carb setup and racing cams and some other crazy stuff he did to it. This thing MOVED. My mother took it to run an errand one day, having never driven the Z before, she came back empty handed and told my father she would never drive the car again because it scared the crap out of her. I laughed, as did my dad.
A couple months later I received my learner permit. My parents and I made a deal that if I wanted to get my own car after I got my license I would have to pay for it, and have around 50 hours behind the wheel. Really, all I wanted to do was drive the Z. I think I asked my dad every other day if I could drive it. Unfortunately, I had yet to fully master the art of mixing gas and clutch on any standard car. So, my begging continued until I was adequately adept at stick, as deemed by my father.
One Saturday morning my dad woke me up and asked how many hours I had left to drive; telling him that I only had about 8 hours left, he asked if I wanted to drive out to the Nissan dealership to pick up a part. I figured it would take up a couple hours, so I got dressed and wandered outside to get in my parents Chevy astrovan, which had been my best friend for most of my 40 something hours on the road. Yet, as I walked out the front door I came to find that the van was gone and only the Z sat in the driveway.
It was only then that I realized what was about to happen. My dad came out and handed me the keys and said, "lets go."
After my excitement died down a little and we had driven around the block a few times I was instructed to continue on towards our destination. Immediately I headed towards the road in which I had sat passenger through too many times in my fathers Z. It was a beautiful piece of road always full of weekend cruisers enjoying the Virginia countryside outside of Washington DC's suburban sprawl. Tentatively I took turns and tried to figure out why my mother had been so afraid of this car. After awhile I began to get more comfortable with the car and began to speed up. My dad gave pointers as I tried to "carve" corners and speed up on the straight sections of road.
After an hour of driving my dad said that we needed to get to the dealership and we turned around. As we came up on one of the empty straights, my dad told me lay on the gas, and I did, by slamming my foot on the gas. The back end of the car got loose before the tires grabbed and in a matter of seconds I was at a speed that I had never seen before, and astro van I was used to driving had never attained. That was the first time I had ever felt pushed back in my seat like that, and it scared the crap out of me. In the instant that the fear subsided, there came a horrible sound, like nothing I had ever heard before. Immediatley the car lost power and my father blurted out a few profanities. I had killed the Z.
After we pull over, we popped the hood before trying to turn her over agian...to our amazement the engine had broken the mounts and almost turned completely over on its side!! I stood there knowing that I would never be allowed to drive that car again. We called a tow truck to get the Z taken back to the local shop my father trusted. The old man who owned the shop was driving the tow truck, when he arrived and looked at what had happened. He just stared at my father, who then pointed at me.
"Boy, dont you know you CANNOT get on these little jap cars like like that. That thangs like a tin can with an engine!"
I will forever remember standing on the side of that road with my dad and the shop owner yelling at me about how lucky I was to have not killed myself. Of course my dad found it hilarious, and had the biggest grin on his face through out the old guys lecture.
That first adventure with my dad secured my love for all things Z. The 240 was fixed by me and my father, and still lives on to this day. I meanwhile have never forgotten the feeling I got during that ride. I bought a 280zxt 4 years later.
